In a method of constructing a partiallysubmerged building beams 20, 30 and sleeves 24 are assembled upon temporary piles 10 and permanent piles 32 are then driven using the sleeves as guides. Hydraulic jacks 40 are attached to the beams 20 and to cross-pieces 46 resting on the piles 32 before the piles 10 are removed. Temporary beams 51 interconnect the cross-pieces. Concrete floors, which may comprise slabs 52, and a peripheral wall 60 are; then formed on the beams 20, 30; whereafter the jacks lower the building into the water and the sleeves are fixed temporarily to the piles at 66. When extensions have been connected to the sleeves and the jacks, Fig. 7 (not shown), a further floor is constructed. By a like procedure additional floors may be provided. To facilitate further immersion of the building before the extra floors are added the lower part of the building may be flooded, Fig. 8 (not shown). Finally, the sleeves are fixed to the piles, the jacks and the beams 53 are removed, and grout is poured between the sleeves and the piles. Submersible pontoons may be used instead of the jacks.</p> |
