Preparing macrocyclic ketones

Cyclopentadecanone or 3-methyl-cyclopentadecanone which are useful in the perfumary industry are produced by catalytically hydrogenating an unsatd. ketone of formula: (in which R is H or CH3 and X is -CH2-CH=CH-, -CH=CH=CH2-, -CH2-C triple bond C-, or -C triple bond C-CH2-) pref. with gaseous H2 in the presence of Raney Ni.
