The washing trough has a perforated false bottom and a sump between this and the bottom proper. From this sump there is a controlled drain and also a connection to the suction side of the circulating pump feeding the spray nozzle(s) for the washing water. Over flow pipes lead from open topped auxiliary vessels reaching up to least the required water level from the sump to which they are connected, and the overflows drain into the main drainage pipe from the trough; there is an auxiliary water feed to the trough. Overflow due to blocked perforations by e.g. spinach leaves is prevented.
