[Also in Division C1] One embodiment of apparatus for recovery of elemental sulphur comprises a leaching unit 12 comprising a settling tank 12a into which are passed sulphur-bearing ore and an alkaline material (in certain proportions) from hopper 10, and an amount of fresh or recycled organic solvent via conduit 27 and section 12b. Sulphur-free gangue is conveyed to vaporising section 12c (by screw conveyor 14) for solvent recovery. Sulphur-bearing solvent passes via conduit 16 to crystalliser 20 from which sulphur is conveyed via vaporising unit 20c to hopper 24. Solvent reutilisation is effected by recovery from 12c, 20c and 20a, and passage via conduits 13b, 15 and 25 to conduits 27, 16 which feed solvent to sections 12b, 20b. A more complicated embodiment is also described.</p> |
