The composite strip consists of a profile of tubular section in expanded natural or synthetic elastomer to form the sealing element, attached or bonded to a bonding strip of elastomeric or plastic material in compact form covering only part of the transverse section of the sealing element, and adapted to fit into a groove or other recess in the metal. The bonding strip pref. has a metallic core which causes longitudinal compression when the strip is straight. Known sealing strips have a sealing element in tension when fitted to the profile of the door, causing poor fitting. A prestressed element overcomes this difficulty. The tubular sealing element and the bonding strip may be prevulcanised. The elements are bonded together pref. with a plane metal reinforcement so that the expanded material is stretched by >0.05% compared with the bonding strip. |
