1368133 Wall and ceiling panels JURY & SPIERS PTY Ltd 24 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 44689/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division E1] A method of forming a building panel comprises forming a member 10 of ductile metal having a pair of spaced parallel flanges 12 which extend away from at least one face of a metallic web 11 situated therebetween, shearing the web to form a plurality of rows of openings 16, the length of the openings exceeding the length of the joining portions 18 between the openings defining therebetween strips 17, increasing the distance between the flanges thereby deforming the strips 17 by bending and stretching in order to increase the area of the openings 16 to form a grid, and placing settable material (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), in the space between the flanges. The flanges may extend away from both faces of web 11, containing a series of ribs 15, so that the formed grid may be fully encased in the material 20. Alternatively, the grid may be partially encased. The member 10, preferably made of extruded aluminium alloy, is deformed in a stretching machine in order to increase the distance between the flanges 12. A settable material, e.g. Plaster of Paris, Portland cement, Lignocellulose chips, or urea formaldehyde resin, is poured between the flanges so as to form when set a reinforced panel suitable as a wall panel. In a further embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the member (24) has a constant cross-section comprising a central flange (25), edge flanges (26) and stiffening ribs (27) in the web 11, the ribs imparting resistance to bending at right angles to the plane of the web. In this case the openings 16 are made between the ribs and flanges such that the intermediate openings connect with the outer openings adjacent the edge flanges and so allow the bending of deformable ribs (31) to form a grid, Fig. 7, which is then treated with settable material to form a panel suitable for a ceiling. |
