1334302 Chromatography MOBIL OIL CORP 22 April 1971 [18 May 1970] 10789/71 Heading B1X The flow of liquid or gaseous fluid through a packed chromatography column 10 is improved by the provision of several axially arranged, helically twisted deflector plates 17. Adjacent plates have opposite twist and their ends are preferably arranged mutually at right angles. Fluid passing helically along the plates is divided at each point of reversal of twist and recombined in such a manner that part of one stream is combined with part of another at the next reversal of twist. In operation specified hydrocarbon mixtures are passed via heated block 14 and line 16 to the heated column 10. Effluent is detected by a thermal conductivity bridge 19 which activates controls to divert portions of effluent to appropriate collectors. The column is packed with specified zeolites, gels and clays and can be pretreated with steam or by caldining. The column may be of the moving bed type. |
