An item selecting system for aiding manual selection of specific items from their storage compartments. Means are provided for indicating the compartment to be selected from and the number of items to be selected. A plurality of cartons are brought to the indicated position for receiving the items which are to be selected. Means are provided to indicate which cartons are to receive the selected items. A computer is used to control the signals to the indicating means. A human operator performs the selection and distribution as directed by the indicating means.
