<p>1369335 Electrostatic precipitators AMERICAN STANDARD Inc 4 July 1972 [2 Nov 1971] 31316/72 Heading B2J An electrostatic precipitator comprises two apertured plates P1, P2 between which is located an apertured plate K of dielectric material, e.g. fibreglass or plastics material. When a direct or alternating electric field is established between the plates P1, P2, which may be metallic, electrical charges are induced on the opposite surfaces of the plate K whereby charged particles in a fluid medium passing through the apertures may be attracted to and collected by the plates. The size of the apertures and distance between the plates are such that vortex patterns are formed as the fluid flows through the apertures so that the charged particles are slowed up to facilitate their attraction by the plates. Two or more electric plates may be located between the metallic plates. An embodiment comprising a first plurality of interconnected metallic plates, a second plurality of such plates and a plurality of dielectric plates is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown). The described precipitator may be used as an add-on unit coupled to a conventional precipitator.</p> |
