<p>1356450 Polyethylene terephthalate articles CIBA-GEIGY AG 31 Dec 1971 [8 Jan 1971] 60922/71 Heading C3R Transparent polyethylene terephthalate moulded articles having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0À8 dl./g., measured as a 1% by weight solution in a mixture of equal parts by weight of phenol and tetrachlorethane at 25‹ C., are produced by injection moulding polyethylene terephthalate produced by transesterification or direct esterification of terephthalic acid or an ester thereof with ethylene glycol and 2,2<SP>1</SP>-bis- [p - (# - hydroxy ethoxy) - phenyl] - propane and subsequent polycondensation, there being used per mol of acid or ester 2-4 mols of ethylene glycol and 0À04-0À1 mols of 2,2<SP>1</SP>-bis-[p-(#- hydroxy ethoxy)-phenyl]-propane as the sole modifying glycol. The final stages of polycondensation may be carried out in the solid, phase. The moulding material may be produced in the presence of a catalyst combination of antimony, lead and zinc or of titanium and zinc, and may have added thereto as a stabilizer a compound of trivalent or pentavalent phosphorus. The moulded articles are free from striation and have a notch impact strength of at least 5-6 Kp. cm./cm<SP>2</SP>. at 23‹ C.</p> |
