Method of anchoring traction cable on to cable car - eliminates violent swinging of cabin resulting from cable breakage

The frame of the running gear of the cablecar has a horizontal shaft carried in bearings on which is mounted a flanged drum (6). The ends of the traction cable and return cable are wound around the drum with at least one turn in opposite directions. Each cable end then lies in the notch of a forked lug (10) on the drum and is retained by a two-piece clamp on the cable. The tendency of the drum to rotate due to unbalance of the tensions in the two cables is resisted by a friction brake. If there is an instantaneous excessive unbalance, e.g. in the case of cable breakage, the brake will slip and limit the accelerating forces on the cablecar.
