[Also in Division F4] A tank, Fig. 2 (not shown) for transporting substances at low temperatures comprises an outer jacket 1, e.g. the steel hull of a ship, a layer of solid insulation 2, an intermediate jacket 3, a layer of powdery insulation 5 and an inner metal tank 4, the inner tank being positioned relative to the outer jacket by means of devices 6-10. Each device 6-10 comprises an H-sectioned beam 8 having at each end a bracket 10 by which it is secured by welding to the outer jacket 1 and at the centre a parallelsided pin 9 engaged in slides 6 formed from two plates braced by brackets 7 fixed to the inner tank 4. The intermediate jacket 3 is formed by an assembly of metal plates 11 having peripheral troughs in which lodge an adhesive filler material and the edges of panels, made from two films 3a and 3b of thermosealable compound material comprising a layer of metal, a layer of synthetic plastic and a layer of textile, the films being connected together by bellows 3d, Fig. 5 (not shown), also of compound material. The panels of the intermediate jacket are supported by hooks which engage either loops or a grid secured on the solid insulation 2, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). |
