Battery (I) having an alkaline electrolyte comprises electrodes made of alloyed sheet coated with alloys or oxides as the active material. The electrodes, connecting bars and the active material are made of the following alloy combination of (I); The alloys may also contain upto 5% C and 5% S to increase chemical activity. Mixing ratios of 0-100% can be used, esp. Fe-Mn or Fe-Al alloys contg. approx. 1% C and 1% S. When metal oxides (e.g. MnO2) are used, additives (e.g. Ni powder, Ni fibres, graphite or carbon felt) are required. The electrolyte is a conc. KOH or NaOH soln. and enriched with hydrogen superoxide. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is suitable for high discharge stream. The service life of the electrodes is increased.
