The automatic monitoring system is for the state of alarm from a number of detectors and is protected against faults by use of a supplementary element. This simulates the alarm and the actual detector condition is used after its activation. A control unit located in a central monitoring unit selects one of a group of detectors. This is selected by loading a register with the address and information necessary to control a supplementary verification element. Data in the register modules a current in a modulator which flows via a matching unit and data bus to a demodulator. The data is compared for coincidence to activate a decoder to open a respective gate. This allows the detector signal to be processed and modulated to be transmitted to the control unit via a register. A second sequence generates the signal to activate the verification element.
