PURPOSE:To remove foreign matters adhered to a nozzle surface to enhance cleaning effect, by wiping and cleaning the nozzle surface after a liquid is supplied to said nozzle surface of an ink jet head during non-recording. CONSTITUTION:The cleaning of a printing head 17 is performed during a non- recording time when the printing head 17 is not subjected to recording operation and, at the same time when the head 17 is comes off the range of recording paper 26, a sponge 19 having water absorbed therewith and pleat-shaped rubber 20 are pushed forwardly by a solenoid 27 to clean the nozzle surface of the head 17. The sponge 19 containing water is at first brought into contact with the nozzle surface of the head 17 to impart water thereto and the nozzle surface is sufficiently wetted to be brought to a state easily wiping off ink or foreign matters and further wiped off by the pleat-shaped rubber 20. The wiped-off ink or foreign matters are fallen in an eave trough shaped ink receiver 21 having a U-shaped cross-sectional area through a guide plate 24. When cleaning is finished and the head 17 is returned to a usual position, the sponge 19 and the pleat- shaped rubber 20 are returned to a body by the solenoid 27. |
