PURPOSE:To enable a ribbon to be effectively used and contrive a lower running cost, by a system wherein the face side or the back side of a ribbon cassette is discriminated by the marker width and marker arrangement on a color ribbon, and printing is conducted by changing the order of color on the basis of the result of discrimination. CONSTITUTION:The ribbon cassette can be mounted on a carriage in a non- reversed state and in the state of being reversed face side back, and the color ribbon 10 can be reciprocatively used selectively in an upper stage and in a lower stage. A plurality of markers 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 are provided on the color ribbon 10, the face side or the back side of the cassette are discriminated by the marker width and the marker arrangement, and printing is conducted by changing the order of printing colors on the basis of the result of the discrimination. Accordingly, the color ribbon can be effectively used, the need for a switch or the like for discriminating between the face side and the back side of the ribbon cassette is eliminated, and a lower cost of the product can be contrived. |
