PURPOSE:To reduce the depolymerization of a produced polymer to thereby obtain a high-molecular polyarylene sulfide by cooling the vapor phase part of a reactor to condense a part of the vapor phase in the reactor and refluxing the condensate to the liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:A dihaloaromatic compound and an organic amide solvent containing an alkali metal sulfide are supplied through a pipeline 8 into a reactor 1 having a cooling coil wound around the upper part on the outside and agitated with an agitator 2. At the same time, a heat transfer medium is supplied through a pipeline 4 into a heat transfer medium jacket 3 and an internal heating coil 6 which are arranged at the liquid phase part of the reactor 1 so that the liquid phase is heated to react the alkali metal sulfide with the dihaloaromatic compound. The vapor phase part of the reactor 1 is cooled by the cooling coil 11 to condense a part of the vapor phase, and the condensate is refluxed to the liquid phase. |
