<p>PURPOSE:To decrease the erosion of in-furnace refractories by maintaining the temp. of the molten metal in a melting furnace contg. a relatively small amt. of the remaining molten metal at the specific temp. below the m.p. of cold charge scrap at the time of adding the scrap into said furnace and melting the scrap by blowing of a carbonaceous material and oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Part of the molten metal by the previous operation is made to remain as a seed molten metal into the melting furnace which permits oxygen blowing. The inexpensive steel scrap preheated by the waste heat from the furnace is charged therein. The carbonaceous material such as coke as an inexpensive heat source is then charged into the furnace and is burned by blowing of the gaseous oxygen to increase the temp. and to carburize the steel scrap, by which the m.p. of the scrap is lowered and the steel scrap is melted at a relatively low temp. The erosion of the refractory material in the furnace at a high temp. is thereby prevented. The temp. of the molten meal in the furnace is maintained lower than the m.p. of the steel scrap and higher than the temp. T deg.C expressed by the equation [I], by which the steel scrap is melted at a low cost while the erosion of the in-furnace refractories is decreased.</p> |
