PURPOSE:To safely and smoothly perform the process of releasing a jam of recording paper by using a single drive motor which can be rotated in normal and reverse directions, and preventing a first drive transmission means from being opened in any time, and releasing part of a second drive means only when a recording paper jam detection device detects a jam of recording paper. CONSTITUTION:Recording paper jam detection devices 18, 19 are provided immediately in front of a registration roller 3 and immediately in front of a recording paper discharging roller 13, respectively. The recording paper jam detection devices 18, 19 do not operate in conjunction with each other during the opening and closing motion of a main body, and part of a drive transmission means B located on the side of the registration roller 3 is released from a drive motor 23 only when the recording paper jam detection devices 18, 19 detect a jam of recording paper. When a jam of recording paper occurs in a fixing device, rotation of a heating roller 7 is controlled by the drive motor 23 to perform the process of releasing the jam. When a jam of recording paper occurs in portions other than the fixing device, driving from the drive motor 23 is canceled out by a rolling gear 33 and rotation of other rollers is not locked and the process of releasing the jam can easily be performed. |
