A suction apparatus for soil deposits in bodies of water, having a suction pipe which can be guided in a controllable manner over the deposits and on the suction opening of which a loosening device for firm deposits is arranged, is characterised in that the working area of the loosening device is screened by a water-jet curtain produced by curtain jet nozzles arranged on the suction pipe and radiating essentially parallel to the suction pipe.
