PURPOSE:To facilitate the preparation of the table of contents of a document to be prepared by a work processor. CONSTITUTION:A table-of-contents extracting means 3 receives a function key inputted by an operator on a keyboard 1 right after a table-of-contents item generated during document creation, enters a numbered control code into the line of the table-of-contents item, and transfers the table-of-contents item and control code to a table-of-contents table 10. This operation is performed each time a table-of-contents item is generated. The document is given page numbers after the document creation, and then a page extracting means 4 retrieves the page in the document where the control code is added to read page numbers, and adds them to the corresponding table-of-contents items in the table-of- contents table 10. Then a table-of-contents display and generating means 5 displays the contents of the table 10, which are confirmed; and the contents of the table 10 are transferred to the contents items in the document. |
