An arrangement and technique for decoding Manchester Encoded Gray Coded serial binary signals is disclosed wherein the Manchester Encoded, Gray Coded data word is first tested for missing data bits. Two copies of the data word are then generated which differ from one another only in the single bit positions where missing data bit was discovered during the testing step. One reconstructed word will have a ONE in the missing data bit position and the other have a ZERO in the missing data bit position. The two copies of the data word are then converted from Gray Code into corresonding coded binary words and one is subtracted from the other. Then, either coded binary word is treated as valid information representing the received data word if the absolute value of the difference computed in the step of subtracting is one and that no more than one bit was detected as missing. |
