PURPOSE:To produce an N-substituted m-aminophenol derivative useful as a raw material for coloring dyes. CONSTITUTION:An amine compound of the formula R<1>-NH-R<2> (R<1> and R<2> are H, 1-8C alkyl, 1-8C alkenyl or cycloalkyl and R<1> and R<2> are not H at the same time) is reacted with resorcinol in the presence of a Lewis acid (catalyst) and a tertiary amine (promoter) to produce an N-substituted m-aminophenol derivative. This production method has an improved selectivity, and an improved yield to the objective compound with low content of impurities. |
