The invention relates to a method for using a chip card (1) having an electronic chip in conjunction with a device (2) which permits the selection of different uses of the chip card (1). Said devices (2) contain means (3) for detecting and processing information contained in chip cards (1), which means (3) detect the information via galvanic contacts and/or in a non-contacting manner via electromagnetic waves. The means (3) are assigned to defined spatial and/or temporal and/or informal criteria (4) so that when the information of the chip card (1) is detected by one of the means, the information of said chip card (1) is linked and/or combined with one or more criteria (4), so that in the device (2) the repeated linking and/or combining of information of the chip card (1) with a criterion (4) is excluded.
