A number of plates (13a-h) are mounted on a common shaft (15) driven by a motor (11) through a chain drive (12). Any entrapped oil or cutting fluid particles will agglomerate as they impact on the plates to form large droplets that are removed by scrapers (14) as the plates pass into the lower half of the section (3). They collect in a sump (18) and are drained off via a lute (19) back into station (4). The pre-cleaned air then passes to a conventional filter and fan (2,1).
