In the process, the selected removal containers are placed on one side and the remaining containers on a different stand. The remaining containers are placed at a preset level (N). The pipettes (8) moved by the removal containers are (48,52), are let down together with their injector (26) on to the preset level (N), so that injector is brought into contact with selected removal containers (48,52). Pipetting process for selective removal of liquid from random removal containers arranged next to each other comprises (a) moving a pipette support having a number of pipettes arranged together with their tips lying in one plane over the removal containers and (b) for simultaneous suction of liquid from the selected containers, moving the liquid level of the selected container on one side and all of the tips of the pipettes on the other side, so that the liquid level and tips contact each other.
