PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for resin coating by which a foreign matter depositing on an optical fiber is removed prior to the resin coating process. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 2 is supplied from an optical fiber supply section 1 and introduced into a crosshead 4. A mesh part 3 is disposed prior to the crosshead 4, and the mesh part consists of knitted stretch threads, into which the optical fiber is passed so as to remove a foreign matter, dust or the like depositing on the fiber like by squeezing. A thermosetting resin is supplied from an extruder 5 to the crosshead 4, applied on the optical fiber 2 and cooled and hardened in a cooling section 6 using a cooling water tank to manufacture an overcoated optical fiber 7.
