PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently view much video in a short time. SOLUTION: This video playback device 1 includes a video decoding part 135 capable of reproducing an arbitrary section of video in either normal reproduction or fast-forward playback mode, highlight information acquisition parts 100 and 101 which acquire highlight information of the video reproduced by the video decoding part 135, and a reproduction control part 134 which controls the video decoding part 135 to reproduce a highlight area in the video by normal reproduction and other area by fast-forward playback.
