PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner dispensing with periodic maintenance and having an air cleaning function capable of surely eliminating contaminants such as chemical substances. SOLUTION: In this air conditioner comprising an air conditioner main body housing 1 provided with an air suction portion 2 and an air supply port 3, a heat exchanger 7 mounted at a downstream side of the air suction port 2 in the air conditioner main body housing 1, and a fan 8 mounted at a downstream side of the heat exchanger 7 in the air conditioner main body housing 1, a charging means 4 is mounted at an upstream side of the heat exchanger 7 to charge or ionize the contaminant such as chemical substances, thus the contaminant such as the chemical substances can be charged or ionized by the charging means 4 in a stage before entering into the heat exchanger 7, and water molecular cluster is formed by connecting a number of water molecules around the charged or ionized contaminant such as chemical substance as a core at a high humidity area near fins of the heat exchanger 7.
