PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate insertion of a half-inserted terminal fitting to the normal inserting position of the connector by a retainer. SOLUTION: A retainer 30 can move to the following three positions: a temporary locking position A at which its locking part 31 is retracted to the outside of a cavity 14 to allow a terminal fitting 50 to go into the cavity 14 and be temporarily locked to a connector housing 10; a standby position B at which the terminal fitting 50 inserted into the cavity 14 is moved from the temporary locking position A perpendicularly to the direction of insertion of the terminal fitting 50 and the locking part 31 is moved behind a receiving part 52; and a final locking position C at which the terminal fitting 50 pushed from the standby position B along the direction of insertion is ready to be pushed in when the locking part 31 pushes the receiving part 52 on the way of insertion and locked by the connector housing 10 at the end of insertion.
