PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for adding a steering reaction force capable of generating a preferable steering feeling by utilizing friction. SOLUTION: The steering reaction force adding device 10 includes a drum 11 coupled to a steering wheel of a vehicle so as to rotate integrally with the steering wheel; a belt-like member 12 having a friction portion 12a wound around an outer peripheral 11b of the drum 11, and a pair of extended portions 12b that are coupled to both sides of the friction portion 12a and extend from the outer peripheral 11b of the drum 11; a retaining mechanism 13 for retaining each of the pair of extended portions 12b while a tension force acts on each of them. The retaining mechanism 13 includes a rotating plate 20 to which the pair of extended portions 12b are secured, a threaded shaft 22 for supporting the rotating plate 20 so that the rotating plate 20 can rotate from a predetermined reference position in accordance with the difference in the tension force between the pair of extended portions 12b, and a spring 23 for adding a restoring force to the rotating plate 20 that restores the rotating plate 20 to the reference position.
