PURPOSE: An image interpolation apparatus, a method thereof, and a computer readable medium in which the method is recorded are provided to adopt a distance weighted value concept based on the interpolation method considering regional pattern. CONSTITUTION: An edge direction detecting unit(10) detects the edge direction of the current pixel. An edge interpolation calculating unit(21) calculates an edge interpolation value based on pixels of the edge direction. A perpendicular interpolation calculating unit(23) calculates a perpendicular interpolation value based on pixels perpendicular to the current pixel. A final interpolation calculating unit(25) calculates the pixel value of the current pixel according to the distance between the current pixel and the pixel of the edge direction and the distance between the current pixel and the pixel of the perpendicular direction.
