PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst having suppressed calking during manufacturing aldehydes from carboxylic acids by hydrogenation and excellent in selectivity or yield of aldehydes and/or alcohols, and a method for manufacturing aldehydes and/or alcohols from carboxylic acids excellent in selectivity or yield of aldehydes and/or alcohols by using the above described catalyst.SOLUTION: There is provided a catalyst for manufacturing aldehydes and/or alcohols from carboxylic acids by hydrogenation, and containing molybdenum, palladium and iron oxide. The catalyst preferably contains 100 pts.wt. of iron oxide, 0.1 to 40 pts.wt. of molybdenum and 1 to 50 pts.wt. of palladium. Also the catalyst is preferably obtained by burning after dry solidifying a dispersion or a solution containing the molybdenum, the palladium and the iron component.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
