A boring bar assembly comprises a boring bar 31, Fig. 2, a holder 30 for a tip 32 and a wedge 37 for adjusting the radial position of the tip. The tip may be of sintered carbide or oxide, and is clamped by a plate 34, along with a chip breaker 35. The wedge is slidable on the holder, and these members are held together by a screw 41, and held in the boring bar 31 by a screw 36. Wedge 37 is adjusted by an eccentric 53, Fig. 5 on a plate 52 formed on a rotatable shaft 50 in holder 30, the eccentric co-operating with a groove 54 in the wedge. Holder 30 is axially adjusted by a screw 40. The holder and wedge may be seated against faces (39), (45) in the bar (31a), Fig. 6 (not shown) or in a groove with two side faces (45), (46), Fig. 7 (not shown). The tip 32 may be of triangular, square or round section. In a prior art boring bar 11, Fig. 1, holder 10 is adjusted by a screw 13. |
