The open end of a replaceable reservoir for a felt tip marking instrument has a valve seat insert 30 provided with transversely deformable flanges 40 and 39. A spring 34 biases a valve member 32, such as a ball in Fig. 2, or a cup-shaped cylindrical member in Fig. 7 (not shown), against the valve seat formed by the annular flange 60. The nib section of the instrument is provided with an annular tapered sealing portion 24. When the nib section is screwed into the reservoir, the sealing portion 24 slides into sealing engagement with the annular flange 39. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), the sealing portion 24 is tapered on the inner surface so that the portion slides around the flange 39. Axial movement of the nib 53 controls the valve. |
