Hydrocyanation of non-conjugated olefines containing 2-20C atoms, to cyano-containing compounds by contacting the olefine with HCN in the presence of a catalyst of the formula: Pd(PX3)4, (where X is OR and R is alkyl or aryl). The process is useful for the production of nitriles and dinitriles, esp. adiponitrile, from olefins in high yield, under mild conditions, with minimal formation of polymer.
