1,099,709. Internal shoe drum brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM. GES.]. March 16, 1966 [Sept. 10, 1965], No. 11516/66. Heading F2F. In an internal shoe drum brake of the kind having an external cylinder 2 containing a piston 3 acting by way of rod 4 on a wedge 5, which is disposed between inclined faces of plungers 8, 9 carrying thrust members 10, 11 which engage the shoe webs 12, 13, with the interposition of rollers 14, at least one of the plungers includes a rotatable internally-threaded sleeve 15 engaging a threaded pin 16 bearing the thrust member 10, the sleeve being automatically rotated to take up lining wear by a spring 18 of spiral form anchored at one end to the interior of the plunger, the other end of the spring being caused to rotate a ratchetwheel 17 secured to the sleeve, on movement of the plunger through the action of a ball (19, Fig. 2, not shown), which is arranged in an aperture in the plunger wall and engages an inclined recess in the bore along which the plunger slides, so that the ball is forced inwards by sliding of the plunger during a brake application to compress the spring and thereby rotate the ratchet-wheel. |
