[Also in Division B1] A mineral hydrocarbon containing nitrogen, for example a light cycle oil, a heavy cycle oil or a heavy gas oil is hydrogenated at a temperature of from 550‹ to 900‹ F. using a presulphided catalyst comprising 0À05 to 40 wt. per cent hydrogenation metal from Groups VB, VI B and/or VIII, for example molybdenum and nickel on a substrate made by extrusion of a mixture of alumina which is substantially free of particles of more than 30 microns in size. Feeds generally mentioned are naphthas, kerosenes, straight run and cracked distillates, distillates from shale oil or gilsonite deposits, light and heavy cycle oils, gas oils, and may contain up to 3% nitrogen. Reaction conditions are: pressure 200 to 3000 p.s.i.g., W.H.S.V. 1 to 8, amount of hydrogen 500 to 5000 S.C.F/B. |
