<p>1286656 Contacting gases with liquids CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 25 Sept 1969 [30 Sept 1968] 47309/69 Heading B1R A tower wherein a rising gas flows in intimate contact with a liquid flowing downwardly over a series of liquid supporting trays alternately of circular and annular form has a zone 31 operated at a low or relatively low temperature, a zone 32 wherein liquid from zone 31 is collected withdrawn through pipe 42 and passed back to the tower through a cooler 44 and pipe 45 or through pipe 47 and gas is withdrawn at 48 passed through a cooler (not shown) and returned at 49, a zone 33 maintained at a high or relatively high temperature and a zone 34 supplied with gas from an inlet 16 and from which liquid is withdrawn through pipe 52 heated in a heater 54 and returned to the tower through pipe 55. Gas is withdrawn at 26, liquid is supplied at 28 and withdrawn at 42' and 30. The gas inlet pipe has vanes 18 in an elbow 17 and ends with a frusto conical section 20 covered with a grid to reduce turbulence in the incoming gas. The tower may be used for treating heavy water with hydrogen sulphide, zone 31 being at 30‹C, zone 33 at 130‹C.</p> |
