When telephone cables are filled with pressurised gas, a pressure-tight seal can be obtained by filling the splicing cavity of the junction boxes with a fluid which solidifies to an elastic rubber-like substance. The main component of this fluid is a rubber which has been liquefied by reduction and solidifies to soft rubber when suitable agents are added.
