<p>1,218,447. Resin containing laminates; moulding plastic substances. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 16 Oct., 1968 [24 Oct., 1967], No. 49080/68. Headings B3A and B5N. [Also in Division C3] Shaped articles, e.g. containers, pipes and moulds, are obtained by mixing a polyfunctional aromatic cyanic acid ester with a pulverulent and/or fibrous filler or reinforcing agent, the starting material being subjected to a preliminary heat treatment before or after mixing with the filler or reinforcing agent, shaping the resulting composition during or after the heat treatment and finally hardening the composition at a temperature higher than that of the preliminary heat treatment. In examples 2,2<SP>1 </SP>- bis- (4- cyanatophenyl) - propane is heated, glass fabric webs are impregnated with the material and a laminate formed by heating and pressing the webs; quartz sand is impregnated with a solution of a cyanate containing phenolic resin, heated, moulded and then hardened by heating under pressure; and laminates are formed by heating under pressure webs of glass fabric impregnated with a solution of preheated 2,2<SP>1</SP>- bis - (4 - cyanatophenyl)- propane, and by impregnating webs of glass fabric with solutions of a novolac/cyanate resin and of a cyanate-containing phenol-modified xylene-formaldehyde resin, preheating the impregnated webs and finally heating them under pressure. Other starting materials, fillers and fibres are mentioned.</p> |
