Articles in hopper 14 are discharged therefrom by oscillation of the hopper about axis 16, so that when the hopper is in the higher position a track 18 in the hopper is aligned with external tracks 22 and it delivers the articles thereto. In order that the articles may be replenished, the hopper is provided with a flexible band 60 secured thereto the band being fed with articles contained in container 34. Container 34 is positioned in the higher position shown by means of cable 36 operated by drum 38, and is lowered into the lower position to receive more articles. Operation.-As hopper 14 oscillates about axis 16 articles are discharged therefrom and when these articles fall below a minimum a switch 124 is operated which energizes a vibrator 122 to discharge articles from container 34 over the shoot 42 and down flexible shoot 60 into hopper 14 as the latter is moving. Guide 26 on hopper 14 prevents overflow of articles during reciprocation. Operation of switch 124, Fig. 3.-Pressure plate 80, pivotally mounted within hopper 14 at 82, is limited in movement by pin 120 operating within opening 118 formed in plate 80 and the plate is pressed upwards by plunger 100 which carries head 113 at the lower end thereof. When the articles in hopper 14 fall below a minimum the weight of the articles on plate 80 is insufficient to depress plunger 100. Hence head 113 assumes a higher position which during the movement of the hopper engages a roller 130 to operate switch 124 to cause replacement of the articles. |
