[Also in Divisions F2 and H1] The spring-biased armature 21 of a pilot valve 31 is guided in a thermoplastic closed-end tube 32 formed with a bowl-like end portion 29 which is provided with an annular shoulder 39 and a leg 43 to clamp the outer periphery of a diaphragm 19 forming the main closure member between an annular inlet 11 and an outlet 13. In assembly the spring 34 and armature 21 are placed in the guide and the diaphragm positioned on the shoulder 39. Downward movement of the guide into the valve body causes the leg 43 to move into the groove 41 and the diaphragm periphery to be sealed in groove 24. A cover-plate 44 is bolted to the valve body to hold the guide in placed by abutment with external radial fins 48 on the bowl portion. The diaphragm is clamped by a ring 19a to a split central depending portion 26a of a backing plate 28 formed with an aperture 26 providing communication between the outlet and a control space 27 in permanent restricted communication with the inlet via passage 25. A second similar valve is shown controlling flow between an inlet 12 and an outlet 14. In a modification the spaces between the fins 48 may be solid. |
