The material is mixed with the fuel to ensure that during processing, the material remains non-critical. It is of ceramic and is fired after pressing into suitable sized pellets or spheres. Clay materials, perhaps with lean clay additives, are pressed and then fired. Alternatively burnt clays (fire clay) with a binder, are pressed and fired.
