[Also in Division A4] A double thickness rim is formed on a beaker blank 13 of thermoplastic synthetic resin by folding a heated outwardly projecting flange 13a thereof back against the adjacent beaker wall. The beaker blanks are sequentially automatically fed from a magazine thereof into the path of an air piston reciprocated stamp 5, provided with an air vent 5a, whereon they are displaced into a cylindrical steel pipe 2 provided with an upper oil jacket heated conical portion 2a whereby the flange 13a is heated by contact therewith and folded over. The rim is set in position by cooling upon entry to the cylindrical pipe section which is provided with a water cooling jacket. The stamp 5 is reciprocated slowly during the forming stroke and rapidly during the retracting stroke. The formed beaker drops from stamp 5 through pipe 2 into a magazine therebeneath. A plurality of cooperating stamps 5 and pipes 2 may be arranged in a row or in a circular arrangement, the stamps being operated by a common pneumatic piston and the heating and cooling jackets being fed with fluid from respective common sources. |
