1,237,023. Measuring temperature. NIPPON KOKAN K. K. April 15, 1969 [April 15, 1968], No. 19146/69. Heading G1D. [Also in Division C7 and H1] Apparatus for determining the carbon content and temperature of liquid steel comprises a sampling vessel 4 having an aperture 3, an inner thermocouple 5, an outer thermocouple 7, a lance 2 on which the vessel is supported, means for passing gas through the lance, into the vessel and out through the aperture and a permeable stopper 17 permitting the gas flow but preventing a counter flow of molten steel. The gas flow is maintained until the vessel, which is covered by a paper sleeve 6 and has metal shields 9, 10, is below the surface slag. On ceasing the gas flow molten steel enters the vessel and is deoxidized by an aluminium wire deoxidizer 8. The thermocouples are connected by wires 16 which pass through a steel tube 18 to external thermometers. The thermocouple 7 measures the temperature at a predetermined depth in the bath of molten steel. The vessel 4 is drawn up after being immersed in the bath to enable the thermocouple 5 to measure the liquidus temperature which is dependent on the carbon content of the steel.
|
