An insulation boot for an electrical connection assembly includes a piston which when moved causes mastic within the boot to seal the apertures provided for the introduction of the conductors. In Fig. 4 a receptacle has tubular legs 4 for conductors 6, 7 which pass through the mastic 100 and piston platform 16. A cap 3 of resilient material is pressed into the receptacle, the cap serrations 15 engaging the protruding arms 10 of the receptacle. Piston platform 16 is forced downwards by the cap, causing the mastic to flow into and seal the apertures between the conductors and legs 4. The bare conductors are electrically connected together by a C- shaped connector 19 and a tapered wedge 20. The connector piece may be stabilized by means of ribs (24) or a compressible substance (26) within the cap member, Figs. 7-10 (not shown). In Fig. 13 a through conductor 107 is connected to a tap conductor 106. A second piston 102a within cap 103 causes mastic to seal the cap aperture 108a. The assembly members and pistons are split, enabling them to be fitted around the conductor 107. Clamping member (130) engages tapered lugs (129) along the sides of the split, after assembly, Fig. 12 (not shown). The insulation boot of Fig. 15 (not shown), is for use with a compression splice (30) crimped to the conductors (51), (52) and comprises threaded parts (50 and 36). The assembly of these three parts causes the pistons (39) to be pushed by the ends of splice (30). In Fig. 3 (not shown) assemblies as shown in Fig. 4 are connected at intervals along a conductor rod.</p> |
