Gas carbon electrode seal for arc furnaces

Device for sealing the gap between electrode and furnace lining of an electric arc furnace consists of a cylindrical chamber through which the electrode passes, and which is connected with a pressurised inert gas supply. - At least two are arc shaped distributor pipes with inward pointing perforations are inside the chamber through which the gas is blown against nearly radially arranged curved buckets so that it spins and passes round the electrode in a circular path. - The arrangement results in a better sealing action of the electrode and also protects it from oxidation.
