The wire passes through a furnace inside a clyndrical air-cooled chamber. - the furance is made up of 3 elliptical-section tubes joined to form a single tube. - Heat from infra red elements along the centre line of each elliptical tube is reflected from the gold-plated surfaces and concentrated on the wire which passes down the centre. - Very rapid heating is obtained, so that full annealing can be done between successive dies. - An inert atmosphere can be introduced into the furnace, and the end pieces may be changed to accommodate different diameters of wire. - By having the heaters in sections, it is possible to have zones of different temp.
