Aromatics are separated from hydrocarbon mixtures contg. non-aromatic components such as paraffins, cyclo-paraffins, olefins and diolefins, as well as organic sulphur compds. by extractive distillation using a mixt of N-substituted morpholines, with substituents contng. =7C, and 0.1-10% vol. pref. 0.5-5.0% vol. of a polar organic compd. which itself has only small solvent properties. - The addition of the polar organic compd. to the morpholine improves the selectivity of aromatics extraction without essentially lowering the solvent powder.
